Paleoecology, Wetlands, and Land Management Policy

Project #: 100619  –   Updated: August 24, 2012

Project Summary

This project utilizes paleoecological techniques to assess land management policies on the Southern Colorado Plateau in response to historic Euro-American settlement. Sites are located in the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. Historic reconstructions of ecological and abiotic landscape parameters are used to evaluate the impacts of introduced disturbances to the landscape such as livestock grazing and fire suppression, and will also incorporate potential climate change effects to this region.
